Renovation of the Guangnan Evangelical Temple carried out by TouchGrass Architecture

The Guangnan Gospel Hall, erected in 1930 and dedicated in 1932, is the only wooden church in Guangxi province. Local inhabitants, under the leadership of Pastor Dong, Shi Zhengang, built the structure using native fir and traditional Chuandou architecture, featuring a four-sided roof, integrating a foreign faith with regional construction practices.

Over almost a hundred years, this Gospel Hall has served multiple functions: it has been a place of worship, the village committee headquarters, a social space for the elderly, and a classroom for the primary school. Continuous use resulted in visible wear on the building.

In 2025, the wooden structure was in a state of severe deterioration. Parts of the construction were extensively rotten, the structure had suffered irregular settling with localized collapses, and the external cladding no longer offered adequate protection against weather such as wind and rain.
