Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has once again set a record for the highest number of runs scored in T20 cricket. Playing for Trinidad Night Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 against St. Lucia Kings, Pollard demonstrated a powerful attack, scoring 65 runs off 26 balls, including six fours and five sixes.
To set the record, Pollard needed to score another 35 runs. His total now stands at 14921, with an average of 31.81 in 749 T20 matches. In his career, Pollard has recorded two centuries and 71 half-centuries.
This record was previously held by English star player Jos Buttler. During The Hundred 2026 tournament, Jos Buttler surpassed Pollard, becoming the top run-scorer in T20. Currently, Buttler has scored 14890 runs in 526 T20 matches with an average of 35.36, holding nine centuries and 106 half-centuries. However, Pollard's recent performance moved Buttler to second place.
The 39-year-old Kieron Pollard is only 79 runs away from reaching the 15000-run mark in T20 cricket. Trinidad Night Riders have six matches left in the group stage, giving Pollard ample opportunity to reach this historic figure. If the team qualifies for the playoffs and final, he will have a chance to strengthen his record. Nevertheless, Jos Buttler is also close; England plans to play a series of three T20 matches against Sri Lanka, where Buttler will aim to make the race more intense.
The match, played on August 26th at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarobe, began with St. Lucia Kings setting a large target of 212 runs. The Night Riders' counter-attack started with the loss of four batsmen at 76 runs for 10.5 overs, after which Pollard came onto the field. In the 13th over, he hit two sixes and two fours against Joshua Bishop. Then, in the 16th over, Pollard targeted Mahesh Tikshna and hit two fours and two sixes. His innings concluded in the 17th over when Matthew Ford dismissed him with a catch and bowled. Despite Pollard's 65 runs, Trinidad Night Riders could only manage 175/6 and lost the match by 36 runs. This marks the team's third defeat in four matches, placing them in seventh place in the table.
