Residents of South Africa can generally expect good and dry weather across most of the country on Thursday. However, isolated precipitation is forecast in parts of the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal provinces, and strong coastal winds will affect sections of the East Cape and KwaZulu-Natal coasts.
According to the South African Weather Service, the probability of rain is only 30% in the eastern parts of the country. Localized short-term rain and light rain are expected in eastern Mpumalanga, eastern Limpopo, and parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Most of the central and western inland areas will remain dry, with no rain expected in the Free State, Northern Cape, North West, Gauteng, and most of the Western Cape provinces.
Weather conditions in specific regions
In KwaZulu-Natal, the day will start cloudy with brief morning showers, after which the weather will improve to partly cloudy. Evening fog is forecast over the Midlands. The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will see cloudy weather with light rain along the Wild Coast in the morning, while the rest of the province will be partly cloudy and cool or warm.
Warnings for damaging winds have been issued along the eastern coast. A Level 2 yellow warning is in effect between Port Alfred and Port Edward, where strong winds may disrupt beach activities, affect small harbors, and hinder navigation for small vessels.
Another Level 2 yellow warning has been issued between Port Edward and Richards Bay, where strong winds may also cause localized damage to infrastructure and settlements.
In the inland areas, the weather is expected to remain mostly pleasant. Gauteng will experience partly cloudy and cool weather, followed by warming in the north, while the North West province will see partly cloudy, windy, and warm weather. The Free State is expected to be cool to warm, with windy conditions developing in the southwest in the afternoon.
The Western Cape is predicted to be fine and warm, with hot conditions in the central and eastern areas. Morning fog patches may appear over some parts of the southern interior region before dissipating. Residents are advised to take precautions against a very high UVB sunburn index forecast for this province.
Meanwhile, in some areas of the Northern Cape, including local municipalities of David Kruiper, Kaai-Gib, Kareeberg, Heys, and Siyathemba, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected, where hot, dry, and windy conditions could quickly trigger wildfires.
