At the 17th Conference of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in New Delhi, the world's first Drought Resilience Index (DRI) was presented, and the Drought Resilience Investment Facility (DRIF) was established.
These steps are aimed at strengthening countries' ability to withstand droughts. This initiative comes amid reports that up to a quarter of the world's population could be affected by drought by 2050.
The monitoring technical indicators developed by DR will allow states to assess their potential in forecasting, preparing for, and adapting to arid conditions.
