During the monsoon period, air humidity significantly increases, leading to enhanced sweat and natural sebum production on the scalp. Because of this, hair often appears sticky, dull, and strange just a few hours after washing. This stickiness causes pore blockage on the scalp, which exacerbates dandruff and hair loss issues.
According to stylist Javed Habib, instead of using expensive products with chemical components on rainy days, it is recommended to apply a mask made from Multanni Mitti once a week. He explained that one should take Multanni Mitti, add a little water, apply the mixture to the hair, leave it for five minutes, and then rinse it off with shampoo.
Multanni Mitti functions as a natural cleanser and absorbent, soaking up excess oil, sweat, and dirt from the scalp, making the hair light, shiny, and voluminous. Below is a guide on how to prepare and apply this mask.
For preparation, you will need:
- Multanni Mitti (powder) — 3 to 4 tablespoons (depending on hair length)
- Fresh yogurt — 2 tablespoons (optional, for hair hydration)
- Water — as needed to create a paste
Although Javed Habib recommended preparing the paste only from Multanni Mitti and water, yogurt remains an optional ingredient.
Take 3-4 tablespoons of Multanni Mitti powder into a glass or plastic bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of yogurt and water to obtain a smooth paste that should not be too thick or too runny. After that, cover the prepared paste and leave it for 5 minutes so that the Multanni Mitti swells well.
Before applying the mask, comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Then, divide the hair into small sections and evenly distribute the mask from the roots to the ends using a comb or fingers.
Although Javed Habib advised keeping the mask on for only 5 minutes, it can be left on for 15–20 minutes. It is important to ensure that the Multanni Mitti does not dry out completely or harden on the hair, as this can lead to breakage when washing.
After 20 minutes, wet the scalp with a small amount of water, gently massaging and removing the mask. Then, thoroughly rinse the hair with clean or slightly warm water. If necessary, use a mild or sulfate-free shampoo for only 1–2 minutes. Your hair will become silky and voluminous without feeling sticky.
