Adani Energy Solutions (AESL), the energy transmission and distribution division of Adani Group, announced on Wednesday its win in a tender for a power transmission project worth 4,700 crore rupees. This project is intended to transport renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major consumption centers in Maharashtra.
The project will also contribute to the development of pumped storage energy systems in areas such as Satara, Pune, and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The tender for the project, which involves bringing 4,500 MW of capacity online, was won through a Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.
The project, implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Satara Power Transmission, is planned for completion within 36 months. It will expand AESL's portfolio by adding 562 kilometers of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformer capacity. Consequently, the company's total transmission network length will reach 29,739 km, and its transformer capacity will be 143,425 MVA.
Kandarpat Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions, noted that pumped storage projects are becoming a crucial element of India's transition to clean energy, as they provide the necessary flexibility and reliability for integrating large-scale renewable energy into the power system. He added that this project will lay the foundation for renewable energy transportation and the deployment of energy storage systems.
The project includes the construction of a 765/400 kV substation in Satara, the construction of the Kolapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, and the modernization of the Kolapur collection station along with associated transmission infrastructure.
