A large-scale modernization of the communal infrastructure is starting in the Kashkadarya and Navoi regions of Uzbekistan, which will allow nearly 295 thousand residents to gain access to a modern sewage system for the first time or solve drainage problems. The total cost of this project is 119 million euros.
The project is being implemented with the support of the French Development Agency and the European Union, which provided a grant of 8.15 million euros.
Cardinal changes in Kashkadarya
The most significant transformations are expected in Kashkadarya. Centralized sewerage was previously absent in the district center of Kitab, but now plans are underway to lay networks from scratch, providing the service to 81% of the local population, which is more than 63 thousand people.
The situation in Shahrisabz will also improve significantly: the coverage rate will increase from 8% to 86%, and the number of users will rise from 19.6 thousand to 177 thousand residents. To achieve this goal, over 520 kilometers of pipelines will be built and repaired in the region, and 10 pumping stations and two large treatment plants will be created.
Development in Navoi Region
In the Navoi region, the main work is focused in the Karman district. The construction of 161 kilometers of networks, the installation of five pumping stations, and the construction of a treatment facility will provide access to civilized drainage for 49.4 thousand residents from 14 mahallas, bringing the coverage rate in the district to 90%.
In addition to ensuring a basic level of comfort in residential buildings, the introduction of new communal facilities contributes to a significant improvement in the sanitary situation and the protection of the natural ecosystem of these regions. It was previously announced that an additional 1.3 billion dollars had been allocated for the development of water supply and sewage systems in Uzbekistan.
