The SASSA self-service platform on WhatsApp now allows beneficiaries to check the status of their grant applications, determine if a re-assessment is necessary, and find out if they need to undergo life confirmation verification.
This service is available via the SASSA WhatsApp number: 082 601 0111. It is designed so that beneficiaries can receive information regarding grants without visiting SASSA offices.
According to the service description, users can start interacting by sending 'Hi' to the specified number and selecting 'Social Grants' from the main menu. The SASSA Self-Service chatbot states: 'Hello! Welcome to the SASSA Self-Service chatbot. I can help you with frequently asked questions such as the next payment date, updating bank details, and resolving any recent issues.'
After selecting the 'Social Grants' option, beneficiaries can choose the relevant grant type, including Old Age Grant, Child Support Grant, or Disability Grant, before proceeding to the identity verification process.
To complete the verification, users must confirm their mobile phone number, enter a one-time password (OTP), and provide their identification number.
Beneficiaries can check application status
The platform enables applicants to find out the current status of their social grant application by selecting the 'Application Status' option after successfully completing verification. SASSA asserts that the system will provide the beneficiary's up-to-date application status.
The goal of this service is to provide beneficiaries with direct access to grant information through a digital channel, reducing the need for routine status inquiries at SASSA offices.
Review and life confirmation
Furthermore, through the WhatsApp service, beneficiaries can find out whether they need to undergo a grant re-assessment or perform a life confirmation verification. In the 'Am I in Review?' section, the system checks if it is time for a review or life confirmation verification. The chatbot will then provide one of several responses, such as 'Grant Review Required', accompanied by instructions on what the beneficiary should do.
If necessary, the system will instead display 'Proof of Life Verification Required', also with instructions for the beneficiary. If no action is required, the platform will state: 'Your grant is currently Not in Review.'
Thus, the SASSA self-service platform on WhatsApp provides beneficiaries with a digital way to check important grant information and determine if further review or any actions are required.
