First section of BRT rapid bus transport on Shakhrisabz Street to open by the end of August

A temporary restriction on traffic movement is planned for Sagban Street in the Almazar district of Tashkent. These restrictions will be in effect for five days, starting on August 24 and ending on August 28.

The reason for imposing these restrictions is the carrying out of necessary repair work. Traffic will be suspended on a section of the road that extends from the intersection with Farobi Street to the intersection with Nurafshon Street.

Drivers are advised to plan their routes in advance and use alternative bypass routes to minimize possible delays during travel.

The Tashkent traffic management center reported that the first stage of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on Shahrisabz Street is scheduled to be completed by September 1st.

This section, approximately 1.2 kilometers long, runs from the intersection of Shahrisabz Street, Mirabad, and Shota Rustaveli Street to Amir Temur Avenue, near the Museum of Arts.

The next phase of work will cover the remaining part of Shahrisabz Street up to its next intersection with Amir Temur Avenue, near the Wyndham hotel. Subsequently, the line is planned to be extended towards Yunusabad.

Work on the first section began on July 24th. Initially, completion was anticipated in the first week of August, but the timeline was adjusted due to the complete reconstruction of the road surface.

The traffic management center specified that the road structure needed to be entirely replaced to ensure stability against future loads from large, heavy buses that will regularly operate on the dedicated lane.

During construction, the road pavement is excavated to a depth of over two meters, after which the base is restored. This structure is designed to prevent moisture accumulation under the road and reduce the risk of soil displacement and subsidence.

A permeable geotextile material is laid between the layers of the road surface. It is intended to maintain the specified structure and thickness of the layers, as well as to increase the stability of the road base.

It is planned that the first BRT section will be equipped with six passenger platforms. The dedicated bus lane will be physically separated from the rest of the roadway by curbs to prevent entry by other vehicles.

This project continues the development of the network of dedicated bus lanes in Tashkent. In 2025, the first section of a dedicated bus lane, about 7 kilometers long, was launched in Uzbekistan along the center of Shota Rustaveli Street.

Ultimately, the BRT corridor is planned to run along Yangi Sergeli Street, Shota Rustaveli Street, Shahrisabz Street, and Amir Temur Avenue. The total length of this corridor will be 16.3 kilometers. The corresponding urban management project for Tashkent was presented in April 2026.
