GoPro is about to introduce the Mission 1 Pro ILS to the Brazilian market, which represents the brand's first camera in twenty-four years to feature interchangeable lenses. While maintaining GoPro's characteristic compact design, this new model integrates functionalities aimed at professional-level audiovisual production. The launch is scheduled for October, with a suggested price of R$ 5,999.
The major difference of this camera is its support for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses. This allows it to be used with a wide range of lenses in this standard, as well as enabling the use of adapters for other systems, such as cinematic lenses with PL (Positive Lock) mounting, a standard in professional cinema equipment.
It is important to note that the camera body does not have electronic contacts. Consequently, lenses that require communication with the camera body for functions such as focus or other controls will not be compatible with the model.
The new Mission 1 line was presented by GoPro in April of this year. The specific model with interchangeable lenses is the Mission 1 Pro ILS, equipped with a 1-inch sensor and capable of capturing 50 megapixels. According to the manufacturer itself, this sensor was developed with the goal of improving performance in low-light scenarios.
The camera continues to use the GP3 processor and offers the possibility of recording videos in 8K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps), in addition to supporting 4K up to 240 fps, which allows for the creation of slow motion with a factor of up to eight times. Among the features aimed at the professional audience are 10-bit recording, HDR HLG, the 8K Open Gate format, the GP-Log2 color profile, and a bitrate reaching up to 240 Mb/s. Additionally, it can capture photographs with 50 MP.
For users who require precise control over focus, improvements such as up to 8x zoom on the screen and the focus peaking feature, which serves to highlight the areas in focus during filming, have been included.
The HyperSmooth stabilization technology, present in GoPro models since the Hero 7 Black, launched in 2018, remains in the Mission 1 Pro ILS and now operates in conjunction with certain MFT lenses. There are three operating modes available: off, with 10% stabilization, and Turbo, which applies a 20% crop, recommended for moments of greater movement.
GoPro advises using MFT lenses that are light and compact, preferably with manual focus and manual aperture or a limited fixed aperture of f/4.5. The manufacturer also warns that models weighing more than 250 grams must be used with a dedicated lens mount, instead of simply resting on the camera body.
The camera can also be complemented by the Mission 1 Series media module. This accessory adds a 3.5 mm microphone input with 32-bit float recording, a timecode port, a headphone output, and a micro-HDMI connection. Recording monitoring can be done through external monitors or by using iPhone and iPad devices with the GoPro Mission Monitor app.
GoPro informed Tecnoblog that the Mission 1 Pro ILS will be available in Brazil in October, although an exact date has not yet been defined, as this depends on the import process. The suggested value for the product is R$ 5,999.
