The second monthly report from the European Observatory of Digital Media (EDMO), covering July, details the five false narratives that circulated most across the European continent. Among the highlighted items are out-of-context videos depicting vandalism after the match between France and Morocco, and transphobic content directed at Elliot Page, an actor known for Nolan's Odyssey series.
Additionally, the report points to the spread of incorrect information, whether generated by artificial intelligence or presented out of context, regarding alleged Iranian attacks on targets located in the United States Gulf. Other topics included in the list are disinformation about traffic lights that supposedly melted in Italy and Germany due to rising temperatures.
Finally, a controversy arising after the end of the World Cup football tournament was mentioned, related to comments made by Spanish player Gavi concerning issues of corruption and the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino.
To compile this report, 30 organizations belonging to the EDMO fact-checking network in the European Union and Norway issued a total of 1,397 fact-checking articles during July 2026.
