Geely develops new 1,000V platform aiming to accelerate electric vehicle charging

The Geely Holding Group has made significant progress in the technological race for electric vehicles by beginning the development of a 1,000V high-voltage architecture. The primary goal of the Chinese automaker is to surpass current charging times, which already allow restoring from 10% to 80% of energy in approximately five and a half minutes, thereby intensifying direct competition with the ultra-fast charging solutions offered by competitor BYD.

Currently, the company incorporates 800V systems in its automobiles, covering components such as electric motors, control units, batteries, wiring, and chargers. This provides notable improvements in both efficiency and range. Recent tests conducted with the Lynk & Co 10 sedan demonstrated impressive results, managing to recover charge from 10% to 80% in just 5 minutes and 32 seconds, reaching notable power peaks during the trials.

However, the brand's engineering department clarified that this model operates nominally with a 772.8V architecture in its 95 kWh battery, classifying it technically within conventional 800V systems.

Looking to the future, Geely is investing in new infrastructures and propulsion systems with even higher voltage levels. The brand's own network already features thousands of high-power fast-charging stations operating with cutting-edge technology. With the commercial arrival of the 1,000V system, it is expected that the group's cars will be able to fully utilize the capacity of these terminals, making the experience of driving an all-electric vehicle progressively more convenient and comparable to combustion engine cars.
