Morris Garages (MG Motor) has launched its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in the Indian market—the MG Hector Tomahawk. This SUV is equipped with a powerful battery pack and an attractive design. The company claims that this vehicle is capable of covering a distance of up to 1100 kilometers on a single tank.
As a plug-in hybrid, the Hector Tomahawk combines the power of an electric vehicle with a gasoline engine.
MG Motor also introduced this new plug-in hybrid SUV, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV, along with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. Under this subscription plan, the initial cost of the SUV is set at 21.79 lakh rupees, excluding the battery price. Customers can rent the battery at a rate of 3.20 rupees per kilometer. The full retail price of the vehicle with the battery is 25.69 lakh rupees (excluding taxes).
MG Motor guarantees a three-year warranty and three years of roadside assistance for the Hector Tomahawk PHEV. Additionally, an MG e-Shield warranty package is offered, allowing customers to receive a five-year warranty for an extra charge. The company has started official pre-orders, and deliveries of the hybrid SUV will begin in November.
In the Tomahawk PHEV, the company installed a 1.5-liter atmospheric gasoline engine. The vehicle is equipped with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor with a power of 148 kW. According to the company's statements, with a full tank and a full charge, this SUV will provide a range of up to 1100 kilometers. If the vehicle is operated exclusively in EV mode, its range will be 115 kilometers.
MG Motor states that when operating in a combination of gasoline and EV modes, the vehicle will achieve a fuel consumption of 50 kilometers. This SUV is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9 seconds. It is worth noting that MG Motor has also released its Hector EV, which is available in 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. However, the hybrid model, Tomahawk PHEV, is presented exclusively in a seven-seater configuration. The company emphasizes that as a seven-seater, it offers the best comfort and fuel efficiency in its class, allowing drivers to enjoy the benefits of both gasoline and electric transport.
A plug-in hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that features an electric motor and a battery in addition to a gasoline engine. Its characteristic feature is the ability to externally charge the battery, similar to a pure EV. Such cars can only function in EV mode. When the battery charge depletes, the gasoline engine takes over. In contrast, a pure EV uses only the battery and electric motor. Furthermore, hybrid models include a small battery and a gasoline engine. Simply put, a plug-in hybrid offers a choice between fuel and electricity, whereas a pure EV relies entirely on the battery.
