In modern life, eating at a dining table has become a common practice as people pay close attention to interior design and convenience. However, Vastu Shastra has specific rules and recommendations regarding the manner of eating. According to these principles, the way and direction of eating directly influence health, mental state, and home well-being.
Vastu Shastra and Ayurveda agree that the most auspicious and perfect way to eat is while sitting on the ground. When a person eats while sitting in Sukhasana (cross-legged), a direct connection is established with the Earth element. This promotes the influx of positive energy into the body and maintains mental calm. Furthermore, this behavior is viewed as respect for food, which helps maintain prosperity and prevent food shortages in the home.
Nevertheless, Vastu Shastra prohibits sitting directly on the bare floor. Sitting directly on the ground causes the body's energy to dissipate into the earth. When sitting, one should always use a mat, cotton cloth, or a wooden pad (asana) to retain the body's energy and ensure cleanliness.
Correct Direction for Eating
The direction you face while eating has a profound impact. If you eat facing east, it promotes increased lifespan, strengthens the digestive system, and brings energy into the body. This direction is considered ideal for youth and students.
Facing north while eating brings wealth, knowledge, and wisdom, making it an excellent choice for young people and scholars. If you eat facing west, it promotes growth in trade and increases financial well-being. It is important to avoid eating while facing south, as this direction is considered the direction of ancestors; eating in this position can exacerbate digestive problems and cause mental strain.
Vastu Shastra Rules for Dining Table Eating
If, due to health conditions or any other reason, a dining table must be used, certain rules should be followed. The table should be either square or rectangular; round or oval tables are considered inauspicious according to Vastu.
The placement of the dining table in the house should be towards the west or southeast (Agni corner). When sitting at the table, the face should be directed either east or north. In conclusion, from both a Vastu Shastra and health perspective, eating on the ground using an asana is the best option. If a dining table is used, negative consequences can be avoided by following the correct directions and established norms.
