Even after washing with water, fruits and vegetables cannot be considered clean. According to an FSSAI study, pesticide residues were found in almost one out of five product samples tested across India.
This problem prompted a scientist from Pune, Dr. Asmita Prabhune, to spend years developing the product Sophab. This concentrated organic rinse for produce is manufactured by Green Pyramid Biotech.
The company claims that after rigorous testing, Sophab is capable of removing up to 99% of pesticides, pathogens, and chemical residues. The usage process is very simple: the agent needs to be diluted, the produce soaked for 2–3 minutes, gently scrubbed, and then rinsed.
The Sophab agent costs 85 rupees for 100 ml, which raises the question of whether it can simplify daily food cleaning.
