Ayub's Restaurant, a popular establishment in the Fort area of Mumbai, has lost its food sales license following an inspection conducted by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (Maharashtra FDA). The inspection took place on August 22, during which serious deficiencies regarding food safety and cleanliness were discovered.
The inspection found that high-risk products, such as eggs, were stored at incorrect temperatures. Furthermore, raw and cooked dishes were not properly separated. The kitchen and food preparation areas showed significant contamination, water accumulation, and a large number of flying insects. According to the FDA, adequate pest control measures and adherence to employee personal hygiene were lacking.
Due to gross violations of food safety regulations, Ayub's license was suspended starting August 23. The FDA emphasized that this measure was taken as part of routine inspections.
As part of a recent campaign, the FDA inspected approximately 37 food service establishments, including hotels and restaurants. Of these, 31 establishments were issued notices requiring corrections, and the licenses of four establishments, including Ayub's, were revoked.
In connection with the festive season, the FDA is conducting a large-scale campaign to ensure food safety across the state. The FDA stated that stricter measures will be applied to establishments that violate hygiene and food safety standards.
Parallel to the FDA's actions, reports surfaced earlier in Pune regarding the discovery of an insect in food from the well-known bakery Paul Bakery. According to Pune resident Vinod Tilekar, who posted on social media, he purchased food from the Phoenix Marketcity bakery in Viman Nagar on August 24 and found an insect upon arriving home. He expressed concern over the quality and cleanliness of the bakery.
