Mixed weather is forecast for South Africa on Wednesday, August 26: rain and brief showers are expected in the eastern and southern coastal areas, while most inland regions will remain clear, partly cloudy, and warm.
A Level 2 yellow warning for destructive winds is in effect along the coast, extending from Table Bay to Cape Agulhas starting in the morning. Dangerous conditions are expected to move east towards Plettenberg Bay in the afternoon. Strong winds may hinder navigation and disrupt small harbors, ports, and beach activities.
The Western Cape will see clear or partly cloudy skies with cool to warm temperatures, although the West Coast district is expected to be hot. Fog is predicted in the central and northeastern parts of the interior in the morning, while the southern coast will initially be cloudy.
Coastal winds will be moderate or fresh from the east and southeast, strengthening along the southwest and southern coasts. No widespread rain is expected in the province.
The Eastern Cape will be one of the wettest regions. The western half will be cloudy and cool or cold, with light rain along the coast and adjacent inland areas. The eastern half will also be cloudy and cool or cold, with occasional light rain along the coast. The chance of rain in the affected coastal zones is about 30%. Winds will strengthen during the day, with fresh to strong northeasterly winds expected along some stretches of the coast.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the weather will be partly cloudy or cloudy and cool, although it will be warmer in the far northeast. Isolated thunderstorms and rain are expected with a probability of precipitation of about 30%. Fog may occur in some inland areas in the morning. Coastal winds will start as moderate, blowing from the south or southwest, and later in the afternoon turn east or southeast.
Mpumalanga is expected to have cloudy conditions with isolated rain and thunderstorms in the east, where the probability of precipitation is about 30%. In other areas, the weather will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with possible patches of morning fog over the southern Highveld.
Limpopo will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with cloudier weather in the southeast, while Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm. The Northwest will start the day clear and warm, becoming partly cloudy during the day.
In Free State, most areas will be clear and warm, although fog is expected in the east in the morning. Cloud cover will increase over the far northwest during the day.
The Northern Cape will experience morning fog in the far west, followed by partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions, while the far east should remain clear.
