The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an order obliging medical colleges to maintain up-to-date records of student suicides and unnatural deaths, as well as to submit a certified Action Taken Report (ATR) monthly. This requirement was introduced following Supreme Court directives regarding student mental health and safety.
Furthermore, institutions have been given four months to fill vacant teaching and key administrative positions. Special recruitment campaigns are provided for filling reserved posts.
The compliance format also mandates ensuring 24-hour access to qualified medical assistance either on campus or within a one-kilometer radius. In the event of any suicide or unnatural death, colleges must provide information on the student's course/year of study, the date and location of the incident, as well as details on police notification, the status of the First Information Report (FIR), the institutional investigation conducted, and the corrective measures taken.
