The Republican also mentioned that Space Force, a branch of the Armed Forces established in 2019, monitors every part of the strait, as well as the nuclear facilities at Pickaxe Mountain and three others that have already been destroyed. Trump reinforced that there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding mine laying.
In a previous communication, Trump criticized Iran for not paying its troops while continuing to hold protests at unprecedented levels, which he classified as a 'humanitarian crisis of gigantic proportions' that needs to be stopped.
The statements by the US leader occur in parallel with the growing effort to pressure Tehran into accepting a peace agreement. This agreement would aim to end the war initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28, almost six months ago. The justification for the conflict lies in the Islamic Republic's inflexibility in negotiations regarding uranium enrichment, which this country claims is intended only for civilian purposes.
On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent presented the operation named 'Economic Pariah' against the Islamic Republic. This operation aims to sanction any individual or entity that maintains commercial relations with Iran, one week after the expiration of a ceasefire and the 60-day deadline agreed upon between the two countries to negotiate an end to the war.
These new sanctions, whose implementation date has not yet been defined, are added to the naval blockade imposed by the United States on Iranian ports. Initially, Iran had blocked the Strait of Hormuz as an act of retaliation, which impacted the global oil supply and raised the prices of its derivatives.
Additionally, on the same Monday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth declared that the Pentagon has not ruled out the possibility of using 'kinetic strikes' against Iranian targets.
