Japanese retailer Uniqlo India, which currently has 20 stores in India, maintains an optimistic view of the market and is constantly looking for opportunities to increase its presence.
The company plans to continue increasing the number of stores exclusively in six cities where it already has a presence. These cities include Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region), Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Lucknow, and Pune.
Nidhi Rastogi, Marketing Director of Uniqlo India, told Business Standard that the company is very optimistic about India and intends to expand in the market. She emphasized that they are continuously looking for opportunities for expansion in the country.
In India, the Japanese retailer's network comprises 20 retail outlets with areas ranging from 10,000 to 35,000 square feet. According to the company, 15 percent of revenue in India comes from online sales, and the rest from offline sales.
In fiscal year 25, the company's revenue reached 1175.5 crore rupees, representing a 44 percent growth. Despite the online sales share being only 15 percent, the company allocates larger budgets to digital advertising, as it believes its customers are predominantly digital users.
The company has allocated 60 percent of advertising expenses to digital channels, and the remaining portion to all other types of advertising. Rastogi explained that a Google study showed that eight out of ten people search for information online before visiting a store, confirming customer digital awareness. Therefore, the company actively invests in digital platforms consumed by its buyers, including OTT, social media, and news resources.
Speaking about product demand in India, Rastogi noted that consumers are beginning to prefer comfort and functionality in clothing. There is also a trend towards people preferring to purchase timeless classic models and quality basic items.
Meanwhile, the brand locally procures about 15–20 percent of the goods sold in India.
