Infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced securing a major order for the development of three Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects in the West Asia region. The company classifies such large orders as those valued between 5,000 and 10,000 crore rupees.
These three projects collectively will provide a storage capacity of 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) and will include grid connections, substations, and underground cables. In addition to four-hour BESS systems, the scope of work also involves integration with existing grids.
Securing these contracts strengthens L&T's position as a key player in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) sector within the rapidly growing energy storage industry. The company noted that this solution allows for efficient energy shifting by storing surplus clean energy generated during periods of low demand and utilizing it during peak load hours.
The BESS solution will utilize liquid cooling technology, which ensures higher power density, improved safety, and extended operational life. Furthermore, the company signed an ultra-large contract worth over 15,000 crore rupees for the construction of gas compressor stations and associated infrastructure for a client in the region.
