The archaeological find occurred by chance: Polish citizen Włodzimierz Starykiewicz discovered an ancient umbon while searching for vehicle parts at a scrap metal collection point.
The man was in the town of Chrubeshow, located near the border with Ukraine. While looking through scrap metal for car and motorcycle parts, he noticed an antique artifact.
It was later established that this object is an umbon taken from an ancient shield. Preliminary age assessment indicates that the find is approximately 1800 years old. The discovery became known to Heritage Daily, which quoted a press release from the Stanisław Staszyc Museum.
