Three High-Protein Desserts You Can Make Without Protein Powder

If you are craving something sweet but prefer to avoid the complex process of baking, these high-protein desserts are worth adding to your culinary arsenal. Notably, none of them require the use of protein powder.

Cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and chia seeds are used as the base for three completely different desserts: chocolate mousse, peanut butter cheesecake, and a tiramisu-inspired pudding.

Cottage cheese, in particular, has become a popular ingredient for creamy, high-protein recipes because blending it completely changes its texture. It is also gaining popularity in viral recipes and food trend reviews.

The key to making these dishes is not to rush the process.

3-Ingredient Chocolate Mousse

This option is the quickest of the three and requires only three ingredients. Cottage cheese provides the creamy base, while cocoa powder gives it a rich chocolate flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine the cottage cheese, cocoa powder, and maple syrup in a food processor or blender.
  2. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. This step is important as it eliminates the grainy texture inherent in cottage cheese.
  3. Transfer to individual cups or bowls and chill for about 30 minutes before serving.

Peanut Butter Cheesecake

If chocolate mousse isn't filling enough, this no-bake cheesecake will be a more substantial choice. Peanut butter, melted dark chocolate, and crushed peanuts give it great texture without needing an oven.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp chopped dark chocolate, melted
  • 2 tbsp crushed peanuts

Instructions

  1. Add the cottage cheese, peanut butter, honey, vanilla extract, and salt to a blender.
  2. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Divide the mixture into serving dishes or ramekins.
  4. Melt the dark chocolate and pour it over the top. Sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
  5. Chill for at least 1 hour or until completely cool and set.
  6. Do not skip the blending stage to achieve the smoothest consistency. Cottage cheese may retain small curds if simply mixed, resulting in a less creamy cheesecake filling than expected.

Chia Tiramisu

This dessert draws inspiration from tiramisu but does not require mascarpone, eggs, or baking. Coffee and cocoa provide a familiar taste, while chia seeds help the mixture thicken during soaking.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brewed, cooled coffee
  • Extra Greek yogurt for the top layer
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the Greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey, and cooled coffee.
  2. Stir thoroughly and transfer to a small jar or glass.
  3. Layer with Greek yogurt on top.
  4. Dust with cocoa powder.
  5. Chill for at least 2 hours or until the chia seeds have thickened the mixture.
  6. Chilling time is important here. Chia seeds need time to absorb the liquid and create a thicker, pudding-like consistency.
