DGCA prepares to introduce annual drug testing for all pilots

The Ministry of Civil Aviation is preparing to take significant steps to enhance pilot safety. Currently, the ministry is considering a proposal to introduce mandatory annual drug testing for all pilots.

The goal of this initiative is to ensure that pilots operating aircraft are not under the influence of any prohibited or intoxicating substances while performing their duties.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is consulting with stakeholders regarding this proposal. Among the officials discussing is the practical feasibility of conducting one hundred percent annual testing for the entire pilot corps.

Simultaneously, an assessment is being conducted on the impact of the proposed system on airline operations. The officials' main focus is on ensuring uninterrupted flight operations despite the implementation of the testing procedure.

If this proposal is approved, the rules for regular pilot checks may undergo substantial changes.
