In Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, on August 22, 2026, an intelligent rehabilitation device, the Digital Rehabilitation Therapist (DRT), donated by China, was officially handed over and put into use.
This device, developed by a Chinese team, is an intelligent system designed to assist in rehabilitation. According to the development team, the system utilizes a database containing over 100,000 clinical cases from Peking University Third-Tier Hospital. It integrates technologies such as AI-based motion recognition and three-dimensional (3D) vision.
Thanks to the use of I-PRE technology and an adaptive human pose recognition algorithm, the DRT can detect 35 key body points and provide rehabilitation recommendations based on individual medical movement protocols. The system is designed to support rehabilitation services in hospitals, communities, and homes, ensuring continuous patient monitoring and management throughout the recovery process.
This donation marks a practical step in bringing China's smart rehabilitation technologies to Central Asia and reflects the deepening healthcare cooperation between China and Kyrgyzstan under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Kyrgyzstan is one of the first countries to support and participate in the BRI. The deployment of DRT in the country is also part of the efforts of Chinese medical and technological partners to promote the development of the 'Medical Silk Road.'
Yan Wu, a representative of the DRT development team, stated that the team will continue to promote the application of smart rehabilitation technologies in more countries and regions so that Chinese rehabilitation solutions can benefit a larger number of people.
At the handover ceremony at the Clinical Emergency Hospital in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on August 22, 2026, Academician Sabyrbek Jumabekov of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic spoke. Tilek Mamadaliyev, First Deputy Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan, stated at the ceremony: 'The intelligent digital rehabilitation system donated by China will bring tangible benefits to the health of patients in Kyrgyzstan, and we are deeply grateful for this.'
Academician Sabyrbek Jumabekov also expressed hopes for future cooperation, stating: 'We need to build friendship and cooperation with our Chinese colleagues in all fields of medicine. We must strengthen exchange and cooperation, conduct more visits for training, participate in major academic events, carry out joint research, and fully share our experience.'
