Kit Harington will now play the role of Gilderoy Lockhart in the second season of the HBO series 'Harry Potter'. He takes on this role after Nicholas Holt left production due to filming schedule issues.
The actor, known for the series 'Game of Thrones', previously voiced Lockhart in the Audible audiobooks of 'Harry Potter' late last year. Lockhart is a famous and narcissistic wizard known for his numerous heroic feats. He is appointed as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, but it soon becomes apparent that he does not meet the requirements for the position. In the 2002 film 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', Kenneth Branagh played this role.
In a December interview with Variety, Harington, who calls himself a 'Harry Potter' fan, revealed that he fell in love with J.K. Rowling's books as a child and has reread them many times since. He noted that the decision to voice Lockhart was simple because he loves the character, adding that Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the most interesting and enjoyable actors to work with among all the cameos in the series.
Filming for the second season of 'Harry Potter', based on the book 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', is scheduled for this autumn. The first season will air on HBO and HBO Max on Christmas Day.
Dominic McLaughlin stars in the series, while Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout play Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. Other cast members include John Lithgow as Hogwarts Director Dumbledore, Janet McTier as Professor McGonagall, Papa Essidu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
John Brown, the screenwriter for the first season adaptation, has been promoted to showrunner for the second season. He joins Francesca Gardiner, the current showrunner and series developer.
