The Realme 16 presents a notable combination of slim design and high autonomy, boasting a 7,000 mAh battery. This premium mid-range device from Realme incorporates a MediaTek processor and includes a side mirror near the rear camera, useful for selfies.
The analysis vehicle, Olhar Digital, evaluated the model, which is configured as a compact smartphone by current standards. It features a 6.57-inch screen and maintains a thin profile, with only 7.9 mm thickness and weighing 188 grams. These specifications are particularly noteworthy given the presence of the 7,000 mAh battery, promising long duration, which is confirmed in tests.
The screen uses AMOLED technology with Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, offering peak brightness adequate for viewing under direct sunlight. Overall, the display offers high quality, characterized by good contrast, deep blacks, vibrant colors, and wide viewing angles.
Internally, the smartphone is equipped with the Dimensity 6400 Turbo processor, optimized for daily use. It demonstrates excellent capability for accessing social networks, browsers, and streaming services without interruptions. The tested 12 GB of RAM ensures good multitasking support, allowing switching between applications without them needing constant reloading.
However, the processor is not one of the most advanced available on the market. This becomes evident when attempting to run more demanding tasks, such as games with heavy graphics or video editing, where the Realme 16 does not meet expectations.
The device is available in 256 GB and 128 GB storage configurations, which is considered more than sufficient to store documents, photos, videos, and applications. Additionally, the device has a virtual RAM feature that uses part of the storage to improve application performance.
The strongest point of the Realme 16 is undoubtedly its 7,000 mAh battery, which supports up to two days of moderate use or more than one full day in more intensive scenarios.
Battery Test Results
Benchmark tests conducted by Olhar Digital, using the PC Mark app from the Android store, simulated conventional tasks, such as web browsing and video playback. With the screen brightness and volume set to 70%, the Realme 16 took 16 hours and 30 minutes to discharge from 100% to 20%. This indicates that the device can finish the day with some remaining charge, even with continuous use.
When recharging is necessary, the phone comes with a 60W charger in the box, capable of reaching 100% in less than an hour. Although this time may seem standard compared to other models, it becomes more relevant when considering that the average smartphone in the same price range usually has 5,000 mAh, while the Realme 16 offers 7,000 mAh.
Regarding cameras, the Realme 16 setup is not impressive on paper, but delivers satisfactory performance. The main sensor has 50 MP, complemented by a secondary 2 MP depth sensor. These are suitable for daily records, especially if the focus is on publishing on social media.
Under good lighting conditions, the photos exhibit good sharpness, accurate dynamic range, and well-calibrated colors. However, performance decreases slightly in low-light environments, although the images remain of good quality. A peculiar feature is the mirror positioned next to the rear cameras, which aids in framing when using the rear camera for selfies, being a curious and interesting detail.
The front camera shares the same 50 MP as the rear, providing good definition and natural skin tones without excessive smoothing. For video recording, both cameras are competent for social media posts, but fall short of the expectations of more demanding users. The rear camera records a maximum of 1080p at 60 fps, without 4K support, and lacks optical image stabilization. The front camera is limited to 1080p and 30 fps.
In summary, the Realme 16 is a great option for those who prioritize web browsing and content creation for social media, thanks to its robust battery, fast charging, and high-quality AMOLED display. Its 50 MP front camera surpasses competitors in the same category, and its thin and light body appeals to those who avoid heavy devices.
However, it is not intended for gamers, as performance in heavy tasks is limited. Furthermore, the rear camera could be improved with an ultrawide sensor and optical image stabilization.
It is important to note that, at the time of publication of this review, the Realme 16 was not available in the stores consulted by Olhar Digital.
