The U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent presented the U.S. sanctions campaign against Iran, which he characterized as 'unprecedented.' He warned that every country has a 'limited time' to cease activities identified by Washington, or it will face action from the Treasury Department.
The new sanctions against Iran will cover areas such as technology, gold, aviation, and shipping, affecting nearly 60 organizations, individuals, and vessels.
Bessent reported that President Donald Trump had been making phone calls to world leaders with specific requests to cease interaction with Iran. He told journalists at a press conference: 'Any organization that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be excluded from the US dollar system. The clock has only just started ticking.'
Furthermore, Bessent emphasized that the global goal is to sever all economic ties supporting this tyrannical regime while Tehran remains isolated. He added that any economic interaction with Iran 'will subject those responsible to the full extent of American power.'
Bessent also hinted that a major financial institution would be placed on the sanctions list by the end of the current week, but did not provide further details.
