Cardio-renal-hepatic-metabolic syndrome affected about 133 million people in 2023

Throughout 2023, cardio-renal-hepatic-metabolic syndrome had a significant impact on the global population. The total number of cases of this syndrome reached 132.9 million people, and the global burden amounted to 626.7 million years of life lost adjusted for disability.

The main factor contributing to the burden of this syndrome was atherosclerotic changes in the cardiovascular system. Nevertheless, a positive trend is observed: over the period from 1990 to 2023, the age-standardized measure of lost healthy life years decreased by 24.4 percent.

This decrease was primarily due to the improvement in the condition of cardiovascular diseases associated with atherosclerosis. These research findings were officially published in the publication eClinicalMedicine.
