Samsung may implement a significant alteration in its main smartphone line in 2027. A sketch based on industrial designs suggests that the unprecedented Galaxy S27 Ultra could adopt a horizontal camera arrangement and offer native support for magnetic accessories, moving away from the established look of the South Korean company's current generations.
Traditionally, the Ultra model serves as a platform to present innovations in Samsung's design and engineering. If these modifications are confirmed, they would constitute one of the biggest visual transformations of the Galaxy S series in several years.
The leak by the well-known whistleblower Ice Universe has generated discussion, as the supposed back panel resembles Apple devices, particularly the format of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to SamMobile, the new device will concentrate its cameras in a horizontal rectangular band at the top of the phone.
In this new elevated block, Samsung could feature three photographic sensors. The design indicates that two of these sensors will have individual metal rings, while the third lens would be inserted into a pill-shaped cutout. This same oval cutout houses secondary image capture components, such as the laser autofocus module and the dual LED flash. The choice to centralize these elements in a single 'island' refers to the approach used by Apple.
Regarding photography, the leaks indicate improvements focused on both stability and optical quality of the sensors. The Galaxy S27 Ultra's rear system may be equipped with a new 200-megapixel main sensor, complemented by optimization in optical image stabilization (OIS).
The hardware would be completed with a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens with autofocus capability, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera offering 5x optical zoom, also with stabilization. The migration to 50 megapixels on secondary lenses aims to ensure greater light capture and the maintenance of sharp details.
In terms of power management, the project anticipates a highly anticipated technological advance. The rendering shows the presence of a circular magnetic ring incorporated internally into the device's back, designed to support the Qi2 wireless charging standard. This technology uses magnets to align the phone's energy coils with the charging base, resulting in reduced heat loss and increased charging speed and efficiency.
If this functionality is confirmed, the native inclusion of the technology will simplify daily consumer use. This change would allow Galaxy S27 Ultra owners to connect wallets, car mounts, and external batteries directly to the body of the device, eliminating dependence on cases or third-party accessories.
The official launch of the device, following the pattern of Samsung's main line, is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
