Herpetologists have discovered and described a new species of harmless colubrid snake belonging to the genus Lielaphis. This reptile is found in the conditions of lowland humid tropical forests located in northeastern New Guinea island.
The new species has been given the scientific name Lielaphis slashi. This designation is a tribute to the guitarist of the rock band Guns N' Roses, Slash Hudson. Researchers emphasized that Slash has supported museums and zoos for many years and also shows an interest in snakes.
Furthermore, the lead author of this scientific work, Sarah Roan, who is an employee of the Field Museum of Natural History, is a long-time fan of Slash's music. The results of the study were officially published in the scientific journal Zootaxa.
