A recent video that appeared on social media has gone viral as it reflects the difficulties faced by an Indian woman living in New Zealand while trying to get her sick child to see a doctor. Often, people who move abroad expect a higher standard of medical care, but reality can be different.
Instagram user Akriti Jaiswal Srivastava shared that her son, Kevit, was ten days old and suffering from a persistent cough that would not improve. When she called a local medical center to make an appointment, she was told that there were no available slots for the next week, and the earliest available appointment was scheduled for the following Wednesday.
Akriti went to the clinic for after-hours appointments, where patients are usually seen without an appointment. However, she found a notice stating that the clinic's capacity was full, and no new patients could be accepted that night. Akriti filmed this notice to express her concerns.
After this entire experience, Akriti compared the healthcare systems of India and New Zealand. She noted that despite New Zealand being a developed country, it is much easier to see a doctor on the day of need in India.
