The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry and Vantara, founded by Ananta Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries Limited, have announced a partnership. The goal of this collaboration is to strengthen wildlife health infrastructure, veterinary care, and conservation efforts in Indonesia.
According to an official statement, the modernized facility will support 62 Sumatran elephants under human care, as well as about 100 wild Sumatran elephants in the surrounding area.
Vantara will provide veterinary expertise, technical support, assistance in infrastructure development, and training within programs overseen by Indonesian authorities. The work will be conducted jointly with national institutions and Fauna Land.
The Indonesian Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, stated that this interaction will increase the country's capacity to care for wildlife while ensuring that all programs remain under the control of Indonesian government bodies. He emphasized: 'Wildlife conservation is ultimately our responsibility, and we must ensure that Indonesia has the necessary facilities, expertise, and resources to care for our wildlife wherever it needs us. Through this partnership, we are strengthening our own health and wildlife conservation infrastructure, and Vantara supports us with its experience, knowledge, and resources.'
Karani noted: 'Indonesia is home to some of the world's most unique biodiversity species, and it is a great honor for Vantara to support the country in protecting this heritage for future generations. Most importantly, we want this partnership to bring something practical and long-term for the wildlife.'
Gunalen added that Indonesia possesses exceptional wildlife and biodiversity, and protecting this natural heritage is a shared responsibility. He expressed hope that the partnership will help build local capacity, strengthen existing wildlife infrastructure, and, most importantly, make a real and sustainable contribution to the lives of animals and the people who protect them.
