Technology investor SoftBank Group has once again reduced its stake in Lenskart Solutions by selling about 2.6 percent of the optical retail chain's shares for 2,888 crore rupees through open market transactions on Monday.
Previously, in June, SoftBank sold a stake in Lenskart worth 2,873 crore rupees, amounting to 3.25 percent.
In the latest deal, the Japanese SoftBank Group, acting through its affiliate SVF II Lightbulb (Cayman) Ltd, sold a total of 4.5 crore shares in 22 tranches. This is equivalent to a 2.58 percent stake in Lenskart, based in Gurugram, according to block deal data on the BSE.
The shares were sold at an average price of 641.75 rupees per share, resulting in a total transaction value of 2,887.87 crore rupees. This transaction reduced SoftBank's stake in Lenskart to 7.28 percent from the previous 9.86 percent, although the company remains the second largest public shareholder in the eyewear manufacturer.
It should also be noted that Platinum Jasmine A 2018 Trust, a structure of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, continues to hold the position of Lenskart's largest public shareholder, owning 9.77 percent.
Deal Participants
The block deal attracted a wide range of institutional investors. Among the domestic buyers were the National Pension System Trust and mutual funds managed by companies such as SBI, Edelweiss, Nippon India, Franklin Templeton, HDFC, HSBC, ICICI Prudential, Motilal Oswal, and Sundaram. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance was also involved in the purchase.
Among foreign investors, the financial company Societe Generale acquired the largest number of shares, receiving 107,350,000 shares, which accounts for 0.62 percent of the stake. These shares were bought at the same price, totaling 688.91 crore rupees.
Other foreign investors who purchased Lenskart shares include Ghisallo Capital Management, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas Financial Markets, Vanguard, Wasatch Global Investors, and Integrated Core Strategies Asia. Other buyers included Universal Investment from Frankfurt, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois, Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System, and Kuwait Investment Authority.
As of the close of trading on the BSE, Lenskart Solutions shares fell by 0.28 percent, ending the session at 659.70 rupees per share.
