The popular dance performance Shall We Dance will once again present its program at the Playhouse Opera in Durban, scheduled for five shows from September 11th to 13th.
As it enters its fourth decade, the annual production brings together over one hundred amateur dancers, professional performers, and dance school students. Audiences can enjoy a celebration that includes more than ten different dance styles.
The program is expected to feature a vibrant combination of ballroom dancing, ballet, Bollywood, Irish dance, hip-hop, and Latin American dances. The performance will be accompanied by elaborate costumes, energetic choreography, music, and lighting effects.
International dancers Egor Kondratenko and Mie Linh Funh will return to the stage for the second time. Representing Denmark, they have achieved recent success in competitions, securing fifth place in Denmark and third place in Vietnam. Furthermore, they plan to participate in the Grand Slam and German Opens tournaments.
Lisa Bobber will once again host the show, while professional ballroom dancers Mark and Adlena Leslie-Smith debut as the featured couple. This married couple has been dancing together for 25 years, performing in Belgium, Canada, and Spain, and recently participated in the World Professional Ballroom Dancing Championships in Japan.
The production was created by dancers Carrie Cousins and Neville Lethard and presented by the South African Dance Teachers Association in collaboration with the Playhouse Company. The goal of the show is to demonstrate the joy, talent, camaraderie, and confidence that can arise from participation in a dance group, as well as uniting professional dancers with local studios and students of the International School of Performing Arts.
