India eliminated from Men's Hockey World Cup 2026 after defeat to Argentina

Fans of Indian hockey are experiencing disappointment as the Indian national team suffered a crushing defeat against Argentina in the second round of the Men's Hockey World Cup 2026. As a result of this match, the Indian team completely concluded its participation in the tournament, and the players' dream of winning the title remained unfulfilled.

The start of the game was extremely unsuccessful for India. Just 40 seconds after the match began, Toscani from Argentina scored a goal, forcing India to play defensively. Within minutes, Nicolas Dela Tori converted a penalty into a goal, increasing Argentina's lead to 2-0.

Despite this, Sukhjit Singh tried to bring the team back into the game by scoring an excellent open-play goal in the 10th minute. However, the team failed to maintain this momentum. During the game, the Indian team's defense appeared quite disorganized, and constant errors in passing and inaccurate tackles exacerbated the problems.

In the second and third quarters, the Indian athletes maintained control of the ball but could not convert this possession into goals. At halftime, the Indian team trailed Argentina 1-2.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh also failed to perform offensively. He had a chance to score in the 34th minute when India earned four consecutive penalties against the opponent. Nevertheless, due to Argentina's strong defense and the absence of Jugraj, India could not capitalize on any opportunity.

In the third and fourth quarters, Argentina maintained dominance despite brilliant saves from Indian goalkeeper Mohit. Domene scored a penalty goal awarded for a foul by Yashdip. Although India scored two goals in the fourth quarter, it was too late by then, and the team ultimately lost the match 5-3.

The second stage proved extremely disappointing for the Indian team. Earlier, they had lost to the Netherlands 3-1, and due to England's loss in the first stage, India failed to earn any points. Consequently, having scored no points in the second round, the Indian team was eliminated from the tournament.
