Citizens of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan who have worked in both countries will be able to combine their accumulated work experience when determining the right to receive a pension, thanks to the new agreement signed between the two states.
The cooperation agreement in the field of pension provision was signed by the Presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on August 23.
This agreement provides for the possibility of summing up employment periods obtained in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan if the experience accumulated in one country alone is insufficient to receive a pension.
Each country will independently calculate and pay its share of pension benefits based on the work experience acquired on its territory.
Furthermore, the agreement guarantees the continuation of the awarded pension even if the pensioner moves to another country. Payments will not be reduced, suspended, or terminated solely because the recipient resides in another or third country.
The agreement is also aimed at simplifying interaction with pension authorities. Applications for the appointment, recalculation, or payment of a pension can be submitted to the relevant institution in either country. In cases stipulated by the treaty, such an application will be considered submitted in the other country.
The pension authorities of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will be able to directly exchange necessary documents and information. Competent institutions will also be able to provide mutual assistance in matters of pension appointment and payment.
Thus, the document ensures the simplification of administrative procedures for citizens with work experience in both countries. It will enter into force after the completion of necessary internal procedures, and the practical aspects of implementation will be established by a separate administrative agreement between the countries.
