According to gameplay leaks that surfaced last week, three months before the official release, cars in Grand Theft Auto VI may be equipped with a fuel system, an engine trouble indicator, and a functional trunk.
Rockstar Games quickly attempted to remove this material from social media, but without success. The company has neither confirmed the authenticity of the recordings nor the presented features.
The video footage shows various indicators appearing above the mini-map when one of the main characters, Jason, gets into a vehicle. One of these indicators resembles a fuel tank, while another looks like an engine check light. The community speculates that players will have to refuel and maintain the car, which would change its status from a simple consumable object, reminiscent of the horse care system in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The reaction on Reddit was mixed. Some players expressed doubt that the need for refueling and repairs would disrupt the game's pace, while others suggested that Rockstar simplify this process. Some joked that if the tank was empty, the only solution would be to steal another vehicle.
The recordings also demonstrate a usable trunk function, hinting at the possibility of carrying items such as weapons. This element was already anticipated, as the game's official website showed an animation of Jason and Lucia interacting with the compartment.
In another video, Jason drives at high speed on a highway and attracts police attention. An indicator with six wanted stars is displayed on the screen, a system that has not appeared since GTA 4. Additional icons are located below the counter, leading fans to speculate that authorities might be able to identify the character's clothing and the vehicle being used—changing one of them could help avoid pursuit. The scenes also show police officers on the roadside, speed radars, and more complex maneuvering by other drivers.
Vehicle physics became another topic of analysis for the community, which notes differences in handling depending on the car's weight and surface type. Forums frequently mention that the handling is more similar to GTA 4 than GTA 5, whose driving style is often criticized for being overly light.
The videos are attributed to the group Cyberleek, which claimed the leak, after which its website was blocked. Five recordings have already been published, indicating access to a playable build of the title.
Other details have sparked speculation about RPG-style mechanics, such as an energy bar, splitting money between reserves, and a karma system similar to Red Dead Redemption 2—in which case arrest could have financial consequences. Jason is also shown playing basketball, which might just be a mini-game. None of this has been confirmed by the developer.
GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Before this date, on August 27 at 4:00 PM Brazilian time, Netflix will show the first official gameplay demonstration with Portuguese subtitles.
