Citizens of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan who have worked in the territory of both countries will now be able to use their accumulated work experience when calculating their right to receive a pension.
The relevant agreement on cooperation in the field of pension provision was signed by the heads of the two states on August 23.
Key Provisions of the Agreement
The key change concerns situations where the service obtained in one country is insufficient to qualify for a pension. In such cases, it is permitted to add the corresponding service accumulated in the other country. Furthermore, the calculation and payment of each country's share of the pension will be carried out separately by each country, based on the service earned in its territory.
The agreement also ensures the preservation of already appointed pensions during relocation. The pension amount will not be reduced, nor will the payment be suspended or terminated solely because the pensioner moved to another or third country.
Simplification of Procedures for Citizens
The process of interaction with pension authorities will be simplified for citizens. An application for the appointment, recalculation, or payment of a pension can be submitted to an institution in either of the two countries. In cases stipulated by the agreement, such an application will be recognized in the other country, and the pension authorities themselves will exchange the necessary documents and data.
Moreover, the competent structures of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will gain the ability to exchange information directly and provide mutual support in the appointment and payment of pensions. This is intended to reduce bureaucratic complexities for citizens with work experience in both states.
The agreement will enter into force after the completion of internal state procedures. The specific procedure for its application by the parties will be established by a separate administrative agreement.
