Abu Dhabi will host the first-ever Euroleague Basketball Supercup next month. The tournament will bring together four leading clubs, including the UAE's Dubai Basketball team, for the season's opening competition.
The competitions will take place at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island on September 18 and 19. Four teams—Olympiacos Piraeus, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Real Madrid, and Dubai Basketball—will participate in the two-day tournament.
The tournament will be organized in a 'Final Four' format, featuring two matches each day. On September 18, Olympiacos will face Fenerbahce at 18:00 UAE time, followed by a match between Dubai Basketball and Real Madrid at 21:00.
The third-place game will be held on September 19 at 18:00, and the title of the first Euroleague Basketball Supercup champion will be decided in the final at 21:00.
This new tournament continues to strengthen Abu Dhabi's ties with Euroleague Basketball after the city hosted the Euroleague Final Four. Saleh Mohammed Al Ghuzairi, Director General of Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, noted that 'the first edition of the Euroleague Basketball Supercup is another milestone in Abu Dhabi's long-term partnership with Euroleague Basketball.'
He added that attracting four elite clubs to the Emirate will further strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a destination for major international sporting events.
