The 19-year-old Indian grandmaster Pranesh M won the title of the prestigious Kanizsa Open chess tournament thanks to brilliant play. He defeated Vadim Petrovsky from Germany during the decisive ninth and final round while playing with the white pieces, thus becoming the champion.
Pranesh demonstrated outstanding play in the final stage of the tournament, concluding his campaign with a triumph. Currently, Pranesh has a rating of 2673 and ranks 44th in the FIDE world rankings.
The Indian embassy in Hungary also congratulated him on this achievement. Through the social network X, the embassy wrote: 'Congratulations Pranesh. We feel immense pride in the brilliant performances of Indian players on the world stage. Hungary is an excellent venue for Indian chess.'
Pranesh's victory is seen as another example of the growing influence of young Indians in international chess.
