In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on August 18, 2026, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan held a meeting to discuss potential joint petrochemical projects. According to the statement from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan, among the discussed plans was the production of terephthalic acid, polyethylene terephthalate, and linear alkylbenzene in the city of Karshi.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, Eraly Tugzhanov, met with representatives of KMG PetroChem LLP, including Chairman of the Board Diyaz Diyanov and Director of the New Projects Department Timur Seitbekov. Company representatives demonstrated the current status of the proposed Kazakh-Uzbek petrochemical initiatives.
Discussions focused on securing raw materials for these projects, selecting production sites, and establishing reliable sales channels. The parties also reviewed the current coordination between KMG PetroChem and relevant state bodies and enterprises of Uzbekistan.
As part of the review, projects concerning the creation of facilities for producing terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate (PTA/PET), as well as the project for producing linear alkylbenzene (LAB) planned for the city of Karshi, were studied in detail.
Participants assessed the broader prospects for industrial cooperation between the two countries in the petrochemical sector, aiming to develop joint production chains and increase the output of high value-added products. Tugzhanov emphasized Kazakhstan's interest in promoting mutually beneficial joint initiatives and confirmed the embassy's readiness to support KMG PetroChem in its interaction with Uzbek partners.
