The International Center for Combating Media Disinformation (ICCMD) announced the creation of an advanced technological system for analyzing and monitoring digital content, as well as the launch of the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Disinformation.
The announcement was made during the center's first Board of Directors meeting, which was held remotely under the chairmanship of Issa Al Shaiji, the Council Chairman. The Council included prominent leaders from Arab media, holding senior positions in well-known media and journalistic institutions and associations.
The goal of this system is to build advanced technical and professional capabilities for studying digital media materials, including analyzing topics, keywords, and media narratives, as well as researching content dissemination trends, indicators, and models. The system will support data analysis using artificial intelligence technologies and professional expertise.
Parallel to the technology development, the Center initiated the International Charter for Media Integrity and Combating Disinformation. This Charter aims to create an international network uniting media organizations, professional bodies, academic institutions, and research organizations around common principles and standards in media honesty, fact-checking, and professional responsibility.
Issa Al Shaiji, the Council Chairman, emphasized that the launch of the International Charter marks an important step toward developing cross-border professional cooperation and uniting media specialists and institutions around shared principles of media responsibility and integrity.
Al Shaiji added that countering media disinformation requires integrating expertise and partnerships between media, professional, and academic structures, as well as investing in modern tools and technologies capable of professionally tracking, analyzing, and addressing issues related to content and disinformation.
For his part, Sultan Al Hosani, the center's Secretary-General, presented an overview of the Center's operational and technological vision, focusing on the integrated digital system currently under development to support the monitoring, analysis, and verification of media and digital content.
The system's capabilities include real-time monitoring, topic and keyword analysis, media narrative study, and content dissemination pattern research, as well as supporting data verification and analysis using artificial intelligence technologies to enhance the efficiency of analytical and monitoring operations.
Fadila Al Muaini, Chairwoman of the UAE Journalists Association, stated that combating media disinformation is no longer solely the responsibility of media organizations but requires a comprehensive system combining technology, professional awareness, and international cooperation. She added: 'We are convinced that professional and credible media are the first line of defense against disinformation, and that the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States, with their experience and media institutions, are well-positioned to contribute effectively to shaping a more integrity-oriented future for the media and digital landscape.'
