The Ladakh administration presented a proposal to the Union's Ministry of Water Resources on Sunday for the construction of 36 water retention dams. The purpose of these structures is to strengthen water availability and increase irrigation potential in this Union Territory.
Although Ladakh possesses significant water reserves from melting glaciers and snow, vast areas of arable land in the region have historically suffered from severe irrigation deficits. The administration noted that such constructions have demonstrated resilience and the ability to withstand increasing volumes of water runoff.
