Tips for Cleaning Transparent Phone Cases: How to Restore Their Original Look

Currently, many users prefer to install protective cases on their mobile phones. Although the market offers numerous options of cases in various colors and designs, transparent models have gained the most popularity among buyers. However, owners of such cases often face one problem: the case, which initially looked attractive, begins to yellow and become dirty over time.

The causes of this include dust, oils from hands, and constant use. As a result, the shine of the case disappears, and many decide to simply throw away the old one and buy a new one. Nevertheless, if the case is not severely damaged, it can be cleaned and its appearance restored using household items without resorting to expensive cleaning products.

How to Clean a Transparent Mobile Phone Case:

The first step is to remove the case from the phone. It is crucial not to try cleaning the case while it is on the phone, as water or cleaning liquids could get inside the device. After removal, the case should be washed with regular water to remove surface dirt and dust.

For light yellowing and dirt on a transparent case, you can use baking soda and vinegar. Both of these components are easy to find at home and help clean dirt from the case's surface. First, apply a little white vinegar to the entire case, then sprinkle baking soda on top. Upon contact, they will begin to foam slightly.

After that, gently scrub the case with a soft brush or an old toothbrush, paying special attention to the corners and edges where the most dirt accumulates. After a few minutes of light cleaning, rinse the case thoroughly with clean water. Then, let it dry completely before putting it back on the phone.

What to Do If the Case is Very Yellowed?

If the case is very old and the yellowing does not go away after regular cleaning, some people try using 3% hydrogen peroxide. The case is completely submerged in the solution, placed in a zip-lock bag, and left for some time under sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation can accelerate the cleaning process with peroxide.

However, caution must be exercised when using this method. Hydrogen peroxide should not come into contact with skin or eyes. Always read the label on the case before attempting to clean it this way.

Important Things to Keep in Mind

It should be remembered that the yellowing of a transparent case may not only be caused by dirt. Prolonged exposure to sun, heat, and air can cause the plastic or TPU material of the case itself to start yellowing. In such cases, cleaning may not completely eliminate the yellowing, and the best solution would be to replace the case.
