Automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to strengthen product exports by introducing a new pickup truck named 'Lifestyler'. The company is confident in maintaining growth momentum due to the launch of new products, despite the multiple increase in electric vehicle sales over the last fiscal year.
According to Rajesh Jedjurikar, Director of Development and CEO of the Automotive and Agriculture sectors, the company intends to increase exports, targeting markets such as South Africa, Australia, West Asia, and Latin America.
The company recently unveiled the 'Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler' pickup, which will enter the Indian market in April 2027 and will be known as 'Mahindra Lifestyler' in global markets. Jedjurikar emphasized that this pickup is an important part of the company's global growth strategy, as it is designed as a universal global platform to leverage worldwide opportunities.
Furthermore, the company is considering entering ASEAN markets, excluding Indonesia where they are already present, to increase the overall export volume.
According to M&M's annual report for 2025-26, the automotive sector's export volume reached 41,030 units, compared to 34,709 units the previous year, demonstrating an 18.2 percent growth. Currently, the company exports its SUVs to markets in Australia, New Zealand, West Asia, Africa, and South America.
Rajesh Jedjurikar noted that the pickup, which will be sold as 'Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler' in India, may also find demand in the domestic market. He explained that there is growing potential for such products in India as more Indian consumers value unique experiences, organized vacations, and recreational activities where they take their gear.
He added that the 'Lifestyler' is ideal for these new lifestyles, whether for a coffee plantation owner or someone going hiking with friends or family, presenting a good opportunity for the company.
Regarding electric vehicles, Jedjurikar reported that over the last 16-17 months, the share of electric vehicles in the total SUV sales grew from zero to 12 percent after the launch of models BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S. The BE 6 SPORTEQ model was recently introduced and will be available at the end of the current month. Although he did not provide exact forecasts for further growth in the EV share, he noted that this figure will continue to rise. In the electric four-wheeler segment, M&M sold 57,472 units in 2025-26 compared to 14,183 units in the previous year, representing a fourfold increase according to the latest annual report.
