Ways to get rid of rats: natural remedies that repel rodents by scent

During the monsoon season, besides ants, lizards, rats, and moles create problems. With the start of the rains, rats and moles begin to move en masse into homes and shops. This not only creates an unsightly appearance but also leads to the spoilage of valuable items, spoiled food in the kitchen, and damage to electrical wires.

Because of this, people often resort to using chemical agents. However, if you prefer not to use commercial chemical products, you can use some items already available at home. These items act as a universal remedy against rats and moles, forcing them to flee from the house or shop upon detecting the smell.

How to get rid of rats:

The strong aroma of cloves can help keep rats at bay. To do this, you can tie several cloves into a small cloth bag and place it in the kitchen cupboard, storage room, or in corners where rats frequently appear.

The strong smell of camphor is also disliked by rats. Several pieces of camphor can be placed in areas where rat presence is observed. If there are small children or pets, camphor should be kept out of their reach and not used in large quantities in enclosed spaces.

Mint oil will have its effect because rats dislike strong smells. A few drops of mint oil can be put on cotton wool and placed in areas where rats or moles have been spotted. When the smell weakens, the cotton wool must be replaced.

You can also try using bay leaves, as it is believed that rats do not like its aroma. Dry bay leaves should be placed in areas with high rat concentration, replacing them regularly.

The smell of onion can also repel rats. Some people place chopped pieces of onion in rat habitats. However, onion spoils quickly, so it needs to be changed regularly and not left in the house for long.

It is important not to rely solely on aromatic remedies; preventing the entry of rats and moles is a higher priority. All small holes and cracks around walls, doors, pipes, and cabinets must be sealed. Food should not be left open, and trash cans should be kept closed.

Disclaimer: Although the strong smells of household remedies can temporarily drive away rats, they do not guarantee complete eradication. Caution must be exercised when using any remedies, and the safety of children and pets must be monitored.
