According to a report from the Uzbekistan Food Safety Committee, an outbreak of cyclosporosis linked to iceberg lettuce has resulted in the registration of 10,930 infection cases across 17 US states. Of those affected, 454 people were hospitalized, and two died.
The investigation into this incident is being conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to the FDA, as of August 20, 2026, the epidemiological investigation established a link between the registered illnesses and processed iceberg lettuce. This product was grown in central regions of Mexico and supplied by Taylor Farms de Mexico.
After receiving the investigation results, the company voluntarily recalled the relevant products from the US market on July 17, 2026.
The Uzbekistan Food Safety Committee noted that this outbreak has drawn attention to the requirements for sanitary and microbiological safety of food products intended for the US market.
It emphasized that it is critically important for companies exporting fruits, vegetables, and food products to the United States to comply with hygiene standards at the stages of cultivation and packaging, control the quality of water used in production, and ensure product traceability.
Furthermore, the committee advised exporters to follow the food safety requirements established by the FDA.
