Vastu Rules for Money Plant: How to Properly Place the Money Plant and What to Avoid

The money plant is valued not only for its ability to decorate a home but also because in Vastu Shastra it is associated with well-being, prosperity, and financial growth. This is why people prefer to place it in homes, offices, and on balconies. However, according to Vastu principles, simply having the plant is not enough; attention must be paid to its placement, the growth of its shoots, and its care. A wrongly placed plant can become a Vastu defect instead of bringing favorable results.

Vastu prescribes placing the money plant in the southeast direction of the house, known as Agniya Kona, because this side is associated with the planet Venus and is considered a direction that brings wealth. It is believed that placing the plant here helps improve the financial situation and attract prosperity into the home.

Furthermore, it is recommended to refrain from placing the money plant in the northeast direction, or Ishan Kona. According to Vastu beliefs, this side is associated with the teacher (Guru), and due to the opposition between Venus and Guru, placing the plant here is not considered suitable.

Since the money plant's shoots grow very quickly, Vastu traditions suggest directing them upwards using a support, rather than allowing them to spread across the floor. It is considered inauspicious when shoots hang down or touch the ground.

Regular care of the money plant is also a mandatory condition. If dry, yellow, or damaged leaves appear on the plant, they must be removed. In Vastu, dry leaves are linked to negativity. Additionally, to maintain the plant's health, it requires sufficient light and water.

According to Vastu, it is preferable to keep the money plant indoors or in a place where proper care can be provided. It can also be placed near the main entrance, but it is crucial to maintain order in the plant's shoots.

Vastu beliefs advise against giving away your indoor money plant to another person. There is a belief that this can lead to the departure of well-being from the home. Similarly, it is better to purchase the plant or cuttings from a nursery rather than taking them from someone else's home.

According to Vastu traditions, Friday is considered an auspicious day for planting the money plant, as this day is associated with the goddess Lakshmi and the planet Venus. Thursday is also considered a good day for planting. Furthermore, it is advised to refrain from planting a new money plant on Tuesday and Sunday.

A brief summary of the rules states: place the money plant in the southeast direction, avoid the northeast, do not allow shoots to spread on the floor, regularly remove dry and yellow leaves, maintain the cleanliness and health of the plant, do not give it away, and ensure it receives enough light. Planting the plant on Friday is considered auspicious.

Vastu Tips: How Many and Where Not to Place a Money Plant to Avoid Losses

According to the principles of Vastu Shastra, plants play an important role in a person's life, influencing their energy and financial situation. Many homeowners use the Money Plant to attract prosperity and the goddess Lakshmi, as it is believed to open new sources of positive energy and income.

However, ignoring Vastu rules or having too many money plants can lead not to benefits, but to significant losses. Therefore, it is crucial to know the relevant rules if this type of plant is in the house.

According to Vastu Shastra, the quantity and placement of plants directly affect destiny. It is not recommended to keep too many or chaotically arranged pots of money plants in the house; usually, one or two healthy specimens are sufficient, as excess can disrupt the home's energy balance.

From a Vastu perspective, the money plant should be placed exclusively in the southeast sector (Agni Kona), which is the abode of the god Ganesha and symbolizes the planet Venus, responsible for prosperity. A plant placed in this zone prevents financial difficulties.

It is necessary to avoid placing the Money Plant in the northeast sector (Ishan Kona), as this is considered inauspicious and may lead to financial loss.

Firstly, as a vine, the Money Plant tends to grow upwards. Vastu requires that the plant's stem never touches the ground; it should be supported with a string or stake, directing growth upwards. The drooping of shoots downwards is interpreted as a sign of stalled progress and financial losses.

Secondly, if the leaves of the plant begin to yellow, wilt, or rot, it is considered an ill omen. Dry leaves should be removed immediately, as a withered flower attracts negative energy into the home.

Thirdly, it is believed that the Money Plant is associated with the planets Venus and Mercury. Giving away your healthy plant or part of it to other people can negatively affect your family's financial situation.

Fourthly, when using glass bottles to keep the plant in water, clear glass should be chosen and the water should be changed regularly, as stagnant or dirty water spreads negativity.

Finally, the plant should not be placed directly in front of the main entrance of the house, despite the popularity of this decorative choice. According to Vastu, it should be kept inside the premises in a place where it is not visible to outsiders.

Tips for Growing Money Plants: 7 Ways to Speed Up Growth and Make Leaves Lush

The Money Plant is considered one of the easiest houseplants to care for. It can even be grown without soil, as it grows easily in water. However, despite ample watering and careful care, its shoots may hardly develop. The plant remains alive, rare new leaves appear, but the growth rate is so slow that the plant's appearance remains unchanged for many months.

If your money ivy is in this condition, simple watering is not enough. To ensure good development, a balance of many factors is necessary, including lighting, soil, fertilizer, pot, and temperature. Experts have suggested seven simple methods that will help your money plant grow faster, becoming denser and more beautiful.

Tips for Growing Money Plants

Firstly, you should choose a location with sufficient, but not direct sunlight. Although the plant requires good light for quality growth, it should not be placed under intense and direct sun, as this can lead to leaf scorching. A spot near a window that receives plenty of, but soft, light is ideal. With insufficient light, the leaves may remain small, and the distance between shoots may increase.

Secondly, it is crucial to avoid daily watering. This is one of the most common mistakes that slow down the growth of the money plant. No plant should receive an excess of water. Constantly moist soil can damage the root system. Before watering, check the top layer of the soil with your finger; watering should only be done when this surface has dried out. Additionally, the pot must have drainage holes. Yellowing leaves or the appearance of dampness and mold smell in the soil may indicate overwatering.

Thirdly, during the vegetative period, the plant needs to be fertilized. Watering and light alone are not enough for constant rapid growth. Light application of nutrients during active growth can significantly accelerate the development of new leaves and shoots. You can use regular liquid plant fertilizers every 4–6 weeks, but you should avoid excessive fertilizer, as this can harm the roots.

Fourthly, if the plant's roots are outgrowing the pot, it should be repotted into another container. Sometimes the problem lies not in the visible parts of the plant, but in the root system. If the roots start coming out of the drainage holes or completely fill the pot, a larger vessel will be required. When choosing a new pot, it is better to take one slightly larger than the old one, not too large. It is important to use soil with good drainage so that water does not stagnate.

Fifth, instead of letting the shoot hang down, it should be tied upwards. Since the money plant is naturally vining, support allows it to become denser and more attractive, while the leaves become larger and thicker. For this, a coconut or moss pole can be used as support.

Sixth, the plant must be protected from air conditioners and cold air. The money plant prefers warmth and moderate humidity. Direct airflow from the air conditioner, proximity to heaters, or windows with constant cold drafts should be avoided. Sudden temperature changes and severe cold negatively affect plant growth, so a normal room temperature regime is optimal.

Finally, pruning the shoots correctly is necessary. If a shoot has become too long but has few leaves, it can be trimmed slightly. Removing long and weak stems stimulates the appearance of new side branches. The cut parts should not be thrown away: they can be planted in water or soil to produce new roots, and then these cuttings can be used to increase the density of the main plant.

If your money plant does not change its condition for a long time, instead of just increasing watering, you need to pay attention to comprehensive care. Ensuring the plant has proper lighting, adequate water, timely fertilization, use of well-draining soil, sufficient space, and appropriate temperature will significantly improve its growth. A small adjustment in care can turn an ordinary plant into a lush, green, and beautiful one.
