Prime Minister Modi meets Indian space startups on occasion of National Space Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video of his meeting with representatives of Indian space startups in honor of National Space Day, noting their high level of energy and ambition in the country's developing space sector.

Posting the video on the social network X, Prime Minister Modi wrote that he was impressed by the energy and aspirations of the participants, adding that people would like their optimism and ideas. He also called on the public to share their views on India's space program, asking: 'Tell me... what inspires you most about India's space journey?'

Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the National Space Day, emphasizing that this day is dedicated to the landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission in the southern polar region of the Moon. Shah noted that this was a momentous day, marking the touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon's South Pole, and praised the scientists of ISRO for their contribution.

National Space Day is celebrated on August 23rd in memory of the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon in 2023. The Vikram lander of Chandrayaan-3 achieved a controlled soft landing on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023, making India the first country to achieve a soft landing near the Moon's south polar region. Subsequently, the Pragyan rover was deployed to conduct scientific experiments and collect data.

The third celebration of National Space Day took place in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Attendees included Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Gujarat Cabinet Minister Arjun Modhwadia, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan, and IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka, according to ANI. Narayanan recalled the early years of India's space program, highlighting the country's progress in this field.

The ISRO Chairman also stated that Chandrayaan-3 provided scientific data accessible to researchers worldwide. Narayanan mentioned that besides the soft landing, the mission brought numerous scientific findings. He also noted that one of the main achievements of Chandrayaan-3 was the inspiration it provided to 140 crore Indians across the globe.

The celebration of National Space Day aims to highlight India's achievements in space exploration and stimulate interest in science, technology, research, and innovation.

Establishment of a terminal on Cocos Islands

In parallel, in July of this year, Australian Minister Anthony Albanese announced plans to install temporary infrastructure for tracking spacecraft on the Cocos Islands. This measure is intended to support Indian space projects, particularly the first manned flight project. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi met with his Australian counterpart during the second stage of his trilateral visit.

During the meeting, captured against the backdrop of the media in Melbourne, both leaders warmly shook hands, demonstrating the deepening strategic partnership between the two democracies.
